Okay, I, as I'm sure others did as well, stopped watching MTV several years back because it was all programming and no music videos. I found a haven several years ago in watching VH1 (as, I'm sure, others did). Why did I do this? BECAUSE THEY STILL PLAYED MUSIC VIDEOS!!!! Well, seems that this 'popularity' made the big wigs at VH1 want to 'improve' their station. Oh yes, it started as several 'behind the musics' but now, IT'S ALL PROGRAMMING!!! THERE WAS JUST A SHOW ON ABOUT MANDY F@#%%N' MOORE!!! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT STUFF!!!! THEY DON'T PLAY ANY VIDEOS ANYMORE EITHER!!!! DAMMIT!!! I DON'T WANT MODEL SHOWS, CAREER RETROSPECTIVES, TOP 50 LISTS, ETC, I WANT SOME DAMNED MUSIC VIDEOS!!! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! (thank you, I had to vent...carry on now, my wayward sons)

I've never understood the love of the video channels. This has always been my exact feelings:

MTV - Get Off The Air Lyrics

Fun Fun Fun in the fluffy chair
    Flame up the herb
    Woof down the beer
    [click!]
    Hi
    I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go

My job is to help destroy
    What's left of your imagination
    By feeding you endless doses
    Of sugar-coated mindless garbage

    So don't create
    Be sedate
    Be a vegetable at home
    And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll

    How far will you go
    How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill

You've turned rock and roll rebellion
    Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination

    M.T.V. Get off the
    M.T.V. Get off the
    M.T.V. Get off the air
    Get off the air

See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their tits and their dicks
    As they lip-synch on screen
    There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
    Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care

    M.T.V. Get off the air
    And so it was
    Our beloved corporate gods
    Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
    To call yourself a pioneer
    When you're too god-damn conservative
    To take real chances.

    Tin-eared
    Graph-paper brained accountants
    Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now

    The lowest common denominator rules
    Forget honesty
    Forget creativity
    The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game

    But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?

    M.T.V.-Get off the air!
    NOW

I tooooooootally agree C.C.L!! I have an expanded digital cable package and I had MTV2 and MTVRX(which was to be the "hard rock video channel) and it was GREAT!! But as MTV does to everyone, I became dissappointed becuz they turned it into a damn Hip-Hop/Rap channel now... doesnt the regular MTv show enough of that crap that now they have to devote a WHOLE channel to it?!?! Anyways, Im sticking to my VH1Classic, they have a show on everyday and 3 times on saturday called Metal Mania!!! I LOVE IT!!!! All the videos from the 80's metal and hair bands you coud EVER want to see.

Okay well if you want to get technical Lycan, you're not a part of their target audience; their demographic is 18-24.

You're not the one out there buying the pop shit, so honestly, they don't give a flying fuck about your opinion. If they aren't making money off you, then forget you.

The shit they play there makes them money and that IS, after all, what they're all about.

If you wanna watch videos, I suggest mtv2, vh1 classic, or Fuse.

(btw carl, i used to LIVE by that song, but not so much anymore)

<font size="3" face="Arial">Actually, VH1 was always targeted towards an older audience. Hence, the behind the musics they have on for the hair bands (our generation) and such. The demo for VH1 is older than 24. Yeah, I get that I'm not in MTV's demo (thank God). But VH1 caught a lot of the viewers who got older and still wanted videos.

Yeah, well, VH1 is no longer for the older generation. It's now for the "older" generation that was in high school two years ago. You know, those aging 20+ year olds!
